Today on the cork board:

  • CLAWS, Inc. is a wildlife rescue and rehab organization for North Carolina wildlife. This volunteer-run organization does a lot of good work not just to care for wildlife but to educate the public. You may have seen them at some renaissance/medieval themed events!

NC Comicon in Durham is this weekend!

Durham, NC—November 8-9

It’s Durham’s locally-owned comic con! The NC Comicon is a great weekend stop for lovers of comics and all things geek/pop-culture. I’ve been a few times before, and it feels like a great middle point between large cons and smaller single-day events.

The con is organized by the folks at Ultimate Comics, a local comic store with various locations in the Triangle.

The NC Comicon takes place at the Durham Convention Center in downtown Durham. Best part about it is there’s a super convenient parking deck across the street, with other parking decks nearby.

Cost: $52.65 for the weekend. Kids 11 under are free with an adult.
Address: Durham Convention Center, 301 W Morgan St, Durham, NC 27701

Uh, here’s a very old photo of my first NC Comicon in 2013. I’m the dork on the right.

Nerd & Nom: It’s Geek & Grub’s Charlotte event.

Charlotte, NC—Sunday, November 9, 12PM to 5PM

The Geek & Grub is taking its market to the Charlotte area with a Nerd and Nom Market: Wizard Edition! I’m not sure how many Charlotte events they’ve done, but I hadn’t seen one until this one, so it’s exciting.

Enjoy an afternoon of shopping some of NC’s most creative nerdy vendors. Show up in cosplay, enter the raffle, spin the prize wheel, and make new friends. This is also a good introductory event to bring friends and family to that may not want to commit to a convention but want to do some shopping and see some cosplay.

The theme is wizards, so enjoy some magic

Cost: Free
Address: Sun Valley Commons, 6431 Old Monroe Rd C, Indian Trail, NC 28079

Indigenous Pop Culture Expo happening at Duke University

Durham, NC—November 14-16

I’m super excited about this one. The Indigenous Pop Culture Expo showcases Native American and Indigenous people and communities and their contributions to pop culture.

The event includes a multitude of special guests, an artist alley, panel discussions, cosplay and more. It’ll all be held at Duke University’s Penn Pavilion. Grab your tickets before they sell out!

Cost: $60 for the weekend. Single-day passes & student discounts available.
Address: Duke University Penn Pavilion, 107 Union Dr, Durham, NC 27710

Who knew November had so many events? One of my favorite things about doing this newsletter is finding out about all of these and getting to attend them. Have you had a favorite event this year?

If you’re enjoying this content, don’t forget to share it with a friend. It’s the best way to support. As always, check out the calendar and business directory for more North Carolina events & businesses.

See you next week,

– Matias
