It’s May! And Star Wars day is just around the corner. Today we’re highlighting some of the events happening on May 4th that will bring together Jedi and scoundrels alike from all over the galaxy.

Star Wars Day at Downtown Cary Park
Cary, NC – May 4, 2025 @ 1 PM - 5 PM | Official website
Downtown Cary Park is at it again with their May the Fourth Star Wars celebration! It’s a family friendly event for Jedi (or Sith) of all ages. There’s a full schedule, including:
Cosplay & photo ops (including the 501st Legion)
Jedi training workshops
Dog costume contest
Kyber crystal scavenger hunt
Trivia
Food trucks
See the full list on the website.
A note about parking: streets near the Downtown Cary Park can get really crowded during events. Plan to go early, and park a few blocks away if you’re able to walk. There’s a parking garage (map) by the park & library, but it tends to fill up after a couple of hours.
Cost: Free!
Address: Downtown Cary Park, 327 S Academy St, Cary, NC 27511
Geek & Grub Market: May the 4th Be With You Edition
Durham, NC – May 4, 2025 @ 12 PM - 5 PM | Official website
If you’re more in the shopping mood, the Geek & Grub Market is hosting their final (sad face) Star Wars themed market on Sunday! Taking place at the Durham Armory, the market will feature a vast array of vendors and intergalactic trinkets. The Geek Tavern will be serving blue milk.

Luke Skywalker drinks blue milk in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Don’t forget to come in costume!
The Durham Armory is in downtown Durham. There are street parking and parking garages available nearby.
Cost: Free!
Address: Durham Armory, 212 Foster St, Durham, NC 27701
Catch the movies!!
Want to watch Star Wars on the big screen? Maybe you’ve never seen any of the movies before? There’s a couple of opportunities on Sunday, May 4th.
The Cary Theater
Cary, NC—Tickets are $12.15 each.
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith @ 12 PM (tickets)
Experience the downfall of the Jedi and betrayal of Anakin Skywalker in what is probably my favorite episode of the series. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi is 🤌Episode IV: A New Hope @ 3 PM (tickets)
The OG and first-released Star Wars film. Watch Luke Skywalker embark on the hero’s journey as he fights to save the galaxy.Rogue One: A Star Wars Story @ 6 PM (tickets)
Probably the best and most interesting non-series Star Wars film. Taking place before the events of Episode IV, a band of rebels pulls a heist to steal the plans for the Death Star.
The final Darth Vader hallway scene gave me chills when I first watched it. This is a must-see.
Movies Under the Stars – Carolina Square Lawn
Chapel Hill, NC—Tickets are free!
Episode IV: A New Hope @ 7:30 PM (website)
If you’d rather be outdoors under the stars, the Town of Chapel Hill will be screening A New Hope at Carolina Square! They mention themed activities before the show starts, too.
Like to cosplay? Join an international club
The 501st Legion is an international Star Wars costuming fan club recognized by Lucasfilm for its impressive, screen-accurate costumes. So much so that members are often invited to appear at official events. They focus on portraying the “bad guys” of the Star Wars universe, but they also have a heroic counterpart: The Rebel Legion.
Both groups are made up of volunteers who bring Star Wars characters to life at conventions, charity events, and more. Their costume standards are strict, so the quality is top-notch!
If you have (or want to make) a high-quality Star Wars costume and are looking for a community to join, check out their websites! Both groups have local chapters. I was part of the Rebel Legion for a while, and it was a great experience.
Star Wars-themed trivia nights
There are plenty of Star Wars-themed events happening around the Triangle, especially if you’re a fan of bar day parties or trivia nights. Here’s a list of the ones I’ve found so far.
Day Party at Boxcar Bar and Arcade, Raleigh @ 12 PM
Trivia at Clouds Brewing Taproom, Raleigh @ 6 PM
Trivia at PourWorks Beer and Wine Shop, Raleigh @ 6:30 PM
Trivia & costume contest at Jaguar Bolera, Raleigh @ 7 PM
Trivia at Hi-Wire Brewing (Golden Belt), Durham @ 7 PM
Triangle on the Cheap has a longer list of events going on too that’s worth checking out.
This special issue was really fun to write. I hope you’ll use it to get out and do some Star Wars-related things this Sunday! If you have a Star Wars costume, send it in via email. I’d love to see it. Here’s mine:

On a shoot with the local Rebel Legion chapter.
Alright that’s it for this week!
And May the Fourth be with you.
