The Raleigh Retro Gamers (IG: @raleighretrogamers) are taking over Triangle Town Center for their town market on March 1. Expect a huge number of retro video game (and adjacent) vendors covering two floors of the indoor mall. Some things you can look forward to:
Loads of vendors selling retro video game merch, trading cards, toys & dolls, etc.
Cosplay contest w/ prizes, so wear your cosplay!
Professional photography for your cosplay. IG: @caitlinregisterphoto
E-Sports tournament with games like Super Smash Bros Ult. and Tekken 8.
Free-play area to enjoy some of your favorite retro games.
Music DJ.
Photo ops with the 501st Legion Star Wars fan group.
And more! Jeez it’s a packed event.
I went to their town market in August of last year and found myself in awe of the number of vendors there. Really a giant experience for the retro video game enthusiast. Here’s a quick video of what I found there:
Durham Mini Comicon
Durham, NC – March 8, 2025 @ 10 AM - 5 PM | Official website
Address: Durham Armory, 212 Foster St, Durham, NC 27701
Cost: $6.78 for all ages.
Here’s a single-day con in Durham! If you find weekend-long cons overwhelming or with high ticket costs, this may be an easier alternative. Cosplayers, comic book writers & artists, and vendors all in attendance for a single day of nerd/pop culture fun. The ticket is $5 plus fees, so not a bank-breaker.
If you want to get your feet wet in the world of cons, this one’s for you! And if you don’t know what it’s like to go to a con, you can check out this video I made from Animate Raleigh earlier this year. It’s a bigger con, so this single-day mini con won’t be nearly as overwhelming.
Last weekend’s VGM Jam was a blast!
In case you couldn’t make it, I took some video of last weekend’s video game music jam hosted by the Turnabout Players (IG: @trianglevgmjams). Shout out to Hartwell (IG: hartwellraleigh) for being such a cool place! Gonna add some YouTube links so you can check out what it was like and listen to some tunes.
An overview of the jams with Joe from the Turnabout Players:
Alright, I’m off to Ibashocon. Reach out if you’re also attending so we can meet up! If you can’t make it, I’ll give you a recap in the next issue.
Until next time,
– Matias
