RRG Game & Geek Expo

Raleigh, NC – June 7-8, 2025 | Official website

Can you believe June starts tomorrow? Well believe it because this event is next weekend.

The Raleigh Retro Gamers (RRG) are putting on their big summer expo. This two-day event is all about VIDEO GAMES (my favorite pastime). Expect to indulge in:

  • Freeplay gaming & arcade (everything from retro arcade to modern console & PC gaming)

  • Panels & video game industry guests

  • Special retro gaming exhibits

  • Cosplay contest & photoshoots

  • Over 100 gaming-related vendors

RRG are known for their vendor markets, and they don’t disappoint. If you’ve been looking for that rare SNES cartridge or mid 00’s Guitar Hero controller, this is one of your best chances to find them.

Cost: $30 (Sunday pass) to $65 (VIP weekend pass)

Address: Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Parking: There are two large parking decks within 2 blocks of the convention center. Their event rates tend to be between $10 and $20 per day. You can also sometimes find free street parking nearby.

Greensboro Summer Solstice Festival

Greensboro, NC – June 21, 2025 | Official website

Here’s one recommended by you! This one-day festival in Greensboro celebrates the summer solstice with magic, mermaids, pirates, and more. I hadn’t heard about it until recently so I’m not 100% sure what to expect, but their website reminds me a bit of the Festival of Legends (which was part fairy festival part renaissance fair).

While I didn’t find explicit mention of costuming, their FAQs do mention “wildly-costumed, large crowds”, so it seems we get to wear our fantasy garb again.

If you’re in or near Greensboro, this seems like a fun way to spend a Saturday. And if you’ve never seen a fire spinning performance, then try to be there when it gets dark!

Cost: $10 for ages 13+

Address: Greensboro Arboretum & Lindley Park, 3299 Starmount Dr, Greensboro, NC 27403

Parking: The organizers recommend carpooling or rideshare services as there is limited parking available at the venue. More info on this page.

If you went to Animazement in Raleigh last weekend, I hope you had as good a time as I did. I’m working on a video of the event that should be out in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
